Welcome to Tanqly —
Every Tank Has a Story

March 28, 2026 · 3 min read

It started with a dead fish and a very sheepish feeling.

I'd had my freshwater tank for about eight months. Planted setup, a few tetras, a pair of corydoras. I thought I was on top of it. Then one morning one of the tetras was floating and I couldn't tell you the last time I'd tested the water. Genuinely could not remember. A week ago? Two weeks? I had a sticky note on the fridge at some point.

That was the problem Tanqly is trying to solve. Not a sexy problem. Nobody builds apps about forgetting to do water changes. But if you've kept fish for any length of time you know exactly the feeling — the nagging sense that you're probably overdue for something but you're not sure what.

What we built

Tanqly tracks your tanks so you don't have to hold it all in your head. Water test results, maintenance history, fish health notes, equipment records. When you log a water change it knows when the next one is due. When you test your parameters it tells you if anything is off based on the actual fish in your tank — not some generic freshwater range that assumes you have a goldfish.

The species database has 200+ fish with real care data. The disease library covers 24 conditions with treatment steps. There's a medication calculator that accounts for your tank's actual volume. None of these are hard problems individually but having them all in one place, all connected to your specific tanks and fish, is what makes it actually useful day-to-day.

What it isn't

Tanqly isn't trying to replace the forums, the Facebook groups, or talking to your local fish store. When your fish is sick and you're not sure what's wrong, a community of people who've seen it before is still your best resource. The app can help you identify what you're looking at and give you somewhere to start, but it doesn't pretend to replace that.

It also isn't a social network. There's no feed of other people's tanks to scroll through. That might come later but for now the app is focused on helping you manage what you've got.

What's next

We're launching with the core feature set and a Tanqly Pro tier for advanced stuff — parameter charts, expense tracking, cloud sync, AI water testing. The free version has everything you need to actually manage a tank.

Future versions will add smart device integration (Neptune Apex, Tuya sensors), community features, and iOS support. Android first for now.

If you try it and something is broken or missing, we want to know. Email us or find us on Instagram @tanqly. We read everything.
